Lacrosse is a fascinating sport that is growing in all high schools and colleges. It is a fast paced and exciting game to watch, too! We are very excited that your son has joined us on this very exciting adventure. The following is some information for you to help guide you through the next year.
The official website for high school and juniors boys lacrosse is the one you are reading this on - www.bowieboyslacrosse.org!
Fall ball practice starts October 5th at 6:30 to 8:00pm at Small Middle School on their football field. Unless the coach communicates otherwise via text message, practice will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15pm - 8:00pm and will follow the AISD school calendar for holidays and days off. So, in general, no school = no practice – but Coach reserves the right to make changes based on scrimmages and other events.
Although the official games do not start until January, there will be several scrimmages during the fall, as well as one tournament. The schedule for the games in the spring will be emailed to the parents, but you can also find it on another website called the Texas High School Lacrosse League. On the website go to the “District” tab and click on “Central District”. Then look for the Division II South Varsity listing and click on “Bowie”. The schedule should be there. Since Lacrosse is a Spring sport, the schedules will not be listed until around mid-December. You will also be able to see an updated schedule of the games here on this website on the game schedule and the calendar of events.
The Longhorn Shootout Tournament takes place at the beginning of December at Whitaker Athletic Complex. Parents, there are very few bleachers to sit on so please bring chairs to this one!
The Aggieland Classic is a tournament we attend each year in College Station. It is held in February and is a lot of fun for the boys and parents! There will be rooms blocked at a group rate at the Calvary Court Hotel.
The Bowie Lacrosse Board has already started requesting a head count – so let the board know here if you plan on attending! You will still need to make your own reservation, but just ask for the rooms that are being blocked for us. The weather could be very cold during the tournament, so don’t forget to pack warm clothes just in case! The boys can wear hoodies under their team jerseys and sweats/thermals under their game shorts. A sign up list will go out to ask for volunteers to bring snacks, water, etc. to the tournament.
Each player will receive a pair of game shorts to wear to every game. The coach will keep the game jersey shirts and hand them out at each game. During cold weather the boys can wear hoodies/t-shirts under their jersey and sweats under their shorts during the games. Once district games start, they can still wear hoodies/t-shirts under their jersey, but only white tights/thermals under their shorts.
Helmets and lacrosse sticks can be loaned to you until you can buy your own. Other equipment includes a mouthguard, cleats, chest/body armor, and gloves. Most of the equipment can be bought from Lacrosse Unlimited located at 6203 N Capital of TX Highway or at Dick's Sporting Goods.
We have several fundraisers throughout the year.
#1: The Lacrosse booth at Bulldogs and Hotdogs that takes place at the beginning of the school year. We use this fundraiser to help recruit new players as well as raise money.
#2: Selling Christmas wreaths during the fall. This fundraiser is to help the parents raise money to pay down their dues for the lacrosse registration. A portion of the funds you receive will go to the wreath fundraiser company, a portion to the team, and a portion toward your son’s registration fees.
#3: Selling Sponsorships! This can happen anytime you're ready! For every sponsor you sign up, you are able to deduct 100% of the amount that you receive toward your son's registration fees. Some parents in the past have used this to completely fund their son’s registration fees.
#4: SNAP! This happens in the spring and the boys will be asked to provide 20 emails of friends and family and an email will be sent to ask for donations. The purpose is to raise money for BBLAX to help pay for field equipment, fuel for practice lights, etc.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask any of the coaches or parents before or after practice or the games. We are all here to help and to have fun!
Also feel free to reach out to the BBLAX Coaches and Board.
